Technical Describing of the Prototype

Edge Matrix is a prototype, an alternative display, which enable displaying of edges on the haptic way. A Matrix of 3x3 Pins can display Edges by puting pins high or low. During the interaction with graphical surfaces (e.g. touch screens), by touching a edge on display with one finger, those pins who are relative to the touched edge will be set to high. Because of the low resolution of our prototype (9 pins) we found out two ways how to deal with displaying of the edges: ALIASING and MOVEAROUND.

The prototyp contains a matrix of 3x3 pins to simulate edges and a servomotor which is able to rotate the matrix in the adequate angle of the active edge. By touching an edge on the display we first calculate the angel of the edge refering to that pin, which should be active. After this the servo rotates the pin-matrix in this angel. This method requires more technical effort.
We will use surveys to find out, which of our two methods is better.
